Creative Pumpkin Decorating Ideas: Use Wooden Ornaments and Tempera Paints

This time, we decided to make cheerful pumpkin-themed decorations. As part of our recycling efforts, we used wooden hanging ornaments left over from last year. You can also paint your design on an acrylic ball, or on wooden boards.

Good preparation is the key to success. So first, we sketched our chosen design with a pencil:

We chose UMTON Tempera Paints for the painting. They are high quality and have excellent coverage. Of course, we applied the paints with a flat brush. Choose the size based on the size of the decoration and the number of details in the image.

After applying the orange base coat, we add more shades and details... Try combining cadmium orange in light and dark versions.

UMTON Tempera Paints can be mixed together to create new shades. If you don't have enough orange, you can mix it from yellow and red. In a pinch, you can use purple instead of red.

Your beautiful orange pumpkin is ready. Now you can finish the background to make it stand out. We chose neutral black so the light-colored design would catch your eye against the wooden background. :)

Remember to set aside enough time for your project, and most of all, don’t stress if something doesn’t go as planned. That’s what the creative process is all about.

And if you’re worried that you might "decorate" your surroundings as well as your project, don’t hesitate to use a protective surface. An old canvas worked well for us, and we’ll use it again for our next project. Plus, the canvas background gives photos a special charm. Give it a try, too!
